Exhibition: Students of the subject areas of art and textiles at Paderborn University show their work

Location: Silo (Building S)

Students from the subject areas of art and textiles at Paderborn University will be presenting their work from the past academic year. Visitors and prospective students can look forward to a wide range of artistic works from various fields such as painting, graphics, sculpture, photography, curatorial practice, installation, textile design and design as well as performance. The different genres create a comprehensive picture of artistic and creative development processes. One thematic link is the examination of the role of water – as a motif, medium or in its various aggregate states. The exhibition will be opened on Tuesday, 28 January at 6 pm in the Silo (Building S) by Simone Probst, Vice President of Paderborn University, together with Prof. Dr. Dr. Oliver Reis, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, and Prof. Dr. Karina Pauls, Head of the Institute of Art / Music / Textiles, as well as Sofia Thalmann, a student in the subject area of textiles.

With their works, the students have focussed on current social issues in both pictorial and sculptural form: Water as the basis of all life, but also as a threat in the face of extreme weather events caused by climate change. The exhibition not only provides an exciting insight into the various seminars and semesters, but also reflects the range of technical, creative and theoretical analyses. These include contributions from cultural studies seminars, such as podcasts that analyse the connections between pop cultural phenomena in music and fashion. An installation in the Silo stairwell reflects the problem of the space that three-dimensional works require for their development, which they shape and redefine.

The exhibition is open daily from 29 January to 2 February from 10 am to 7 pm. As an accompanying programme, on Wednesday, 29 January, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., interested parties can walk through the Silo exhibition with students and talk about their artistic work and their studies at Paderborn University. Registration is possible at kunstpraxis@kw.uni-paderborn.
