PhoQS project: Quantum Assisted Sensor Systems

Overview

In this research project, a quantum-assisted lidar and photonic radar system will be built. For this purpose, a sensor transmit signal is modulated onto a CW laser signal, which is then transmitted directly (lidar) or after electro-optical conversion and an optional frequency multiplication (radar). In the case of photonic radar, the received signal is converted to an optical signal, or in the case of lidar, the received signal is given directly as an input signal to a quantum pulse gate (QPG). The second input signal of the QPG is generated by means of a pulse shaper, which is fed with a pulsed laser. By evaluating the QPG output signal, conclusions about the distance can be made.

Focal points in this project are:

  • Development of test structures at an external LNOI contract manufacturing company with subsequent post-processing in PhoQS.
  • (Partial) integration of selected components for a quantum assisted sensor system in LNOI.
  • Set-up of a test bed for a quantum-assisted lidar system.

Set-up of an experimental setup for a quantum-assisted photonic radar system.
