FlexLabQuartier
Overview
Planned neighbourhood management that networks future technologies and integrates relevant stakeholders offers numerous synergy potentials for increasing energy efficiency, flexibility and resilience. The neighbourhood is manageable enough to mobilise local stakeholders and actively involve citizens in development processes.
The FlexLabQuartier project aims to break down barriers to the construction and operation of climate-friendly neighbourhoods in three real-world laboratories in OWL, in Bielefeld-Sennestadt, Borchen and Verl. To this end, an interdisciplinary project consortium in FlexLabQuartier is developing solutions from a technical, social and economic perspective in order to combine climate protection, energy security and economic efficiency by intelligently networking all energy-relevant factors in neighbourhoods.
The focus is on the decarbonisation of neighbourhoods: the energy supply is guaranteed by renewable energies, while sector coupling makes sensible use of flexibilities - including through the use of machine learning processes. A cross-sector planning process also ensures the energy-efficient design and operation of climate-neutral neighbourhoods. As the neighbourhoods are intended to be economically viable, a business model for their operation is also part of the solutions. At the same time, socio-psychological factors that influence the acceptance and active support of the project by local politicians and potential users are being analysed.
